The dog pregnancy calculator estimates the whelping (birth) date based on the date of mating. Canine gestation typically lasts 63 days from ovulation, though puppies may arrive anywhere from day 58 to day 68.
If you know the mating date, add 63 days for the estimated whelping date. If you know the ovulation date (from progesterone testing), the estimate is more precise.
Regular veterinary care during pregnancy is essential. Your vet can confirm pregnancy with ultrasound at 25–28 days and X-ray at 45+ days to count puppies.
Stages of Dog Pregnancy
Week 1–2: Fertilization and early cell division. No visible changes. Week 3–4: Embryos implant in the uterus. Morning sickness may appear. Week 5–6: Rapid fetal development. Belly begins to enlarge. Nipples become prominent.
Week 7–8: Puppies are fully formed. Mother becomes restless, may stop eating. Week 9: Whelping typically occurs. Normal labor lasts 6–12 hours.

Early signs (weeks 1–4): Decreased appetite, mild lethargy, nipple enlargement, behavioral changes.
Later signs (weeks 5–9): Enlarged abdomen, increased appetite, nesting behavior, milk production begins, puppies may be felt or seen moving.
