About the Minute Calculator
A minute calculator solves three common time problems: adding time durations together, subtracting one time duration from another, and converting a number of minutes into hours, seconds, and other units. These calculations seem simple but are surprisingly error-prone because time uses a base-60 system rather than base-10. Adding 45 minutes and 30 minutes gives 75 minutes — which is 1 hour and 15 minutes, not 1.75 minutes. Our calculator handles all borrowing and carrying in the sexagesimal (base-60) system automatically.

Converting Minutes to Hours and Seconds
To convert minutes to hours and minutes, divide by 60. The quotient is the whole hours and the remainder is the leftover minutes. For 130 minutes: 130 ÷ 60 = 2 remainder 10, so 2 hours and 10 minutes. In decimal form, 130 ÷ 60 = 2.167 hours. To convert decimal hours back to minutes, multiply the decimal part by 60: 0.167 × 60 ≈ 10 minutes.
To convert minutes to seconds, multiply by 60. To convert seconds to minutes, divide by 60. 90 minutes = 90 × 60 = 5,400 seconds. 300 seconds = 300 ÷ 60 = 5 minutes. These conversions are important in video production (frame counts), running pace calculations (seconds per kilometre), and scientific measurement where SI units require seconds rather than minutes.
