Lottery Number Generator
Generate random lottery numbers for Powerball, Mega Millions, Pick 6, Pick 5, or custom range. Draw up to 20 tickets at once.
About the Lottery Number Generator
A lottery number generator picks random numbers within the rules of a specified lottery game, saving you the time of choosing numbers yourself and ensuring each number is selected with equal probability. Random number selection is statistically equivalent to any other strategy — 'lucky numbers', birthdays, and 'due numbers' all have the same odds as randomly generated tickets because lottery draws are independent events. Each draw is completely unaffected by previous results.
Our generator supports the most popular US lotteries: Powerball (5 from 1–69 + Powerball 1–26), Mega Millions (5 from 1–70 + Mega Ball 1–25), Pick 6 (6 from 1–49), and Pick 5 (5 from 1–35). A custom range option lets you configure the minimum, maximum, and number of balls for any lottery worldwide. You can generate up to 20 tickets at once and view the last few draws in a history panel.
Statistically speaking, all combinations of lottery numbers are equally likely. The chance of winning Powerball is 1 in 292,201,338 — the same whether you play 1-2-3-4-5+6 or a 'random looking' set. However, playing numbers that are less popular (avoiding common patterns like all birthdays, all low numbers, or sequential runs) improves your payout if you do win, because fewer people share the jackpot. Our random generator naturally avoids the clustering bias that human-chosen numbers exhibit.

The Mathematics of Lottery Odds
Lottery odds are calculated using combinations. Powerball requires matching 5 white balls from 1–69 and the Powerball from 1–26. White ball combinations: C(69,5) = 11,238,513. Powerball options: 26. Total combinations: 11,238,513 × 26 = 292,201,338. Your jackpot odds with one ticket are 1 in 292,201,338 — roughly equivalent to flipping a fair coin 28 times and getting heads every time, or winning a coin flip tournament of 28 rounds.
Despite the astronomical odds, lotteries provide substantial secondary prizes for partial matches. In Powerball, matching just the Powerball number wins $4. Matching 3 white balls wins $7. Matching 4 white balls wins $100. Matching all 5 white balls (but not the Powerball) wins $1,000,000. The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are approximately 1 in 24.87 — far more achievable than the jackpot odds because secondary prizes have less stringent matching requirements.
The expected value of a lottery ticket is typically well below the ticket price due to taxes, lump sum discount, and the probability-weighted average of prizes. For Powerball at a $2 ticket price, the break-even jackpot (before taxes) occurs around $584 million with a single winner. When jackpots grow to this level or beyond, ticket sales surge — which also increases the probability of a shared jackpot, reducing the expected prize per winner. This feedback loop means the expected value rarely crosses break-even in practice.
