About the French Pension Calculator

France's pension reform of 2023 raised the legal retirement age from 62 to 64 for most workers, and increased the number of quarters (trimestres) required to receive the full pension rate (taux plein) up to 172 trimestres for those born in 1965 or later. Understanding how these rules apply to your specific birth year and career length is essential for planning an accurate retirement date.

The French pension system is based on quarters (trimestres) — three-month periods of paid work contributing to the Social Security system. To receive the full pension (taux plein of 50% of your reference salary), you need both the legal retirement age and the required number of trimestres for your birth year. Missing quarters results in a décote (reduction) of 1.25% per missing quarter.

For private sector employees, the base pension is 50% of your average best 25 years of annual salary. This calculator estimates your gross monthly pension, applies the applicable CSG levy and income tax estimate to show a net approximation, and calculates your replacement rate — how much of your final salary the pension represents.

It also extended the required contribution period to 172 trimestres (43 years) for those born after 1965. The 'départ anticipé' options for long careers and arduous work are maintained but with modified conditions.
