About the Bi-Weekly Salary Calculator
A bi-weekly paycheck comes every two weeks — 26 times per year. Our bi-weekly salary calculator converts between annual salary, bi-weekly gross, and hourly rates — and shows your take-home after federal income tax, FICA, and state income tax for all 50 states.
Enter your annual salary, bi-weekly gross, or hourly rate and instantly see your full paycheck breakdown. Two months per year you'll receive a third paycheck — our calculator accounts for this in the annual totals.
Bi-weekly vs. semi-monthly pay: a common confusion
Bi-weekly means paid every two weeks (26 paychecks/year). Semi-monthly means paid twice per month — typically the 1st and 15th (24 paychecks/year). The per-paycheck amount differs: a $78,000 annual salary is $3,000/paycheck semi-monthly but $3,000/paycheck bi-weekly. Wait — that's not right: $78,000 ÷ 26 = $3,000, but $78,000 ÷ 24 = $3,250. This distinction matters for budgeting.
The three paycheck months
With bi-weekly pay, two months each year contain three pay periods instead of two (since 52 weeks ÷ 2 = 26 periods, but 12 months × 2 = only 24 'expected' periods). Many people treat the extra paycheck as a windfall for savings, debt payoff, or large purchases. Our calculator shows both per-period amounts and annual totals.
